General Summary:
The Phenomenex Applications Lab is looking for a Bioanalytical Applications Scientist.  Our Applications Lab occupies an entire building at the Phenomenex World Headquarters, located in the beautiful Southern California coastal city of Torrance.  We are looking for the unique combination of bioanalytical bench scientist and business professional.  An individual that enjoys hands-on developing and technical troubleshooting for chromatographic, sample prep and LCMS methodologies.  This position is mostly based “in the lab” but will have direct interactions with the Phenomenex Marketing, R&D and customers.  With the support of our other scientists and significant laboratory capabilities, this role has great potential for scientific and career growth.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform guided method develop solutions for strategically important methods and/or industries.
• Ability to research, develop and present solution-oriented separation and sample preparation methods for “hot bioanalytical areas” based on Phenomenex technology and products.
• Operating and maintaining HPLC systems and lab equipment to be in excellent condition.
• Keep all work areas neat and clean, and follow all safety procedures without exception
• Aid in the trouble shooting and technical support of customers and distributors world wide.
• Development and demonstration of bioanalytical sample preparation techniques.
• Effectively lead application development projects including proper planning, resource allocation, and completion.
• Maintain detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls and blanks
• Acquire and maintain scientific and competitive knowledge and market segment overview for support of customers, sales and service. Keep up to date with the scientific community.
• Train colleagues and customer on new products/applications as necessary.
• Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to commercialize and promote (through brochure, web, technical and seminar content) new products and applications to the scientific community.
• Travel as required (<25% ) in the form or customer site visits and scientific meetings or trade shows to meet company objectives.
• Performs other job-related duties as requested.

Job Requirements


• BS or MS Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred but related fields will be considered.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in bioanalytical environment, demonstrable familiarity in typical laboratory workflows.
• Demonstrated knowledge of protein characterization, HPLC method development, analytical method development
• Experience with mass spectrometry and peptide mapping
• Experience with affinity chromatography, IEX, RP, SEC, or other methods, both for purification and for analytical development a plus
• Experience with modern HPLC and GC instrumentation, including Agilent and Shimadzu HPLC systems and operating software.
• Strong ability to think “outside the box” and apply your skills creatively to solve real-world chromatographic method/application problems. 
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects.
• Outgoing personality with excellent English and presentation skills.
