Description

The Accounting Manager is responsible for all areas relating to financial reporting and internal controls of an ~$150M business. This position will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles in accordance with US GAAP and ensure accurate and timely financial statements submissions. The Accounting Manager will supervise several senior/staff accountants and is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely manner. Among other things, this role encompasses a multitude of accounting activities, including financial statement preparation & review, the entire close process, documentation of accounting policies and managing internal/external audits. The Accounting Manager will have direct contact with the senior leadership team, which will require the individual to have strong interpersonal skills but also excellent communication skills. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise the general ledger group to manage day-to-day accounting operations and ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met 
  • Review monthly general journal entries, income and balance sheet statements, account reconciliations, and various other accounting statements and reports
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting process
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
  • Monitor department activities & develop more efficient ways to reduce effort while maintaining the highest quality 
  • Provide training and development to staff 
  • Develop monthly and quarterly accounting reports for the management and executive teams
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions
  • Assist in development and implementation of new procedures to enhance the workflow of the department
  • Perform periodic testing for compliance with written policies and procedures as part of the overall SOX program
  • Lead development of accounting policies including the review and implementation of process improvements and system changes

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance or equivalent studies.
  • CPA preferred. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years general and/or public accounting experience at Big 4 and experienced with US GAAP & internal controls.
  • 3+ years of prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
  • Experience working in a publicly traded manufacturing environment a plus

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required 
  • Ability to communicate clearly & concisely (written and oral)
  • Must have strong experience with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • SAP/Oracle experience a big plus.
