Description

Working closely with the Leica Technical Writers and R&D team, you are responsible for the development and updating of all technical documentation for the Advanced Staining Instruments Strategic Business Unit.

The primary job purpose is to develop clear and concise technical information for user manuals, help files on- and off-line and service documentation for field associates and global support.

You must have/develop detailed knowledge of the mechanics and science behind the instrumentation and related software, as well as a highly developed skill set in written and visual communications. 

Your role requires close alignment with Innovation, Product Development, Engineering and Marketing Groups for technical documentation and compliance, as it pertains to those documents and the company.



Major Responsibilities
Writing
• Written and visual communication of complex medical device equipment into clear and concise outputs for internal and external use
• Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
• Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction
• Create and select images to illustrate material
• Assist in laying out material for publication


Process
• In-depth understanding of internal development procedures and external global compliance needs
• Ability to liaise with external agencies such as translators
• Keeping up-to-date with changing global trends within the medical device environment

Technical
• Ability to understand the mechanics behind the development and updating of instrument platforms and associated software
• Ability to establish and foster relationships with technical development groups and product development personnel
• Observe production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail
• Study drawings, specifications, mock-ups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail
• Assess product development to identify gaps and need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material
• Comprehensive understanding of modern, sophisticated technical writing tools –MadCap Flare, Adobe FrameMaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Acrobat etc.

Job Requirements



Qualifications


Essential:

• Professional experience of 5+ years of relevant technical writing in a regulated environment

• Bachelor Degree in Communications or similar relevant background

• Native English speaker, with the ability to write clearly and accurately

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Meticulous attention to detail


Highly Desirable:

• Formal professional/technical writing training, such as Certificate IV in Professional Writing and Editing

• Understanding of the clinical diagnostics field

• Experience with FDA and other regulatory bodies with regard to compliant technical writing

• Self-motivated

• Active learner - understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making

• Possess good problem-solving skills - identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

• Demonstrates good judgment and decision making - considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

• Organised, with good time-management skills

• Able to manage and adjust based on changing priorities

• Experience of developing multimedia-based learning projects, including animation, audio, video, interactive elements etc.
