Position Summary:

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer position is a great opportunity to join engineering team in a fast-growing business unit at Pall Lifesciences’s Centre of Excellence in New England (Westborough, MA). This position will collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to design and develop novel bioprocessing equipment’s for upstream and downstream processing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to add significant value in defining the future of drug manufacturing processes.



Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports engineering team goals by participating on the new product development team as a lead technical contributor (Designs), with responsibility from concept generation to full implementation.
  • Assumes engineering design authority for internal or external (outsourced) development activities by collaborating with Pall associates or third party vendors that may be located on different continents. Ensures that product performance meets all specified requirements including regulatory (UL, ROHS, CE, USP VI, etc.).
  • Provides conceptual and detailed designs using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks). Uses tolerance analysis and stress calculations for design analysis.
  • Evaluates technical risks by leading DFMEA’s and ensuring accurate completion of required actions.
  • Builds prototypes and develops written test protocols to verify or evaluate design performance. Generates reports and presentations related to design activities.
  • Aligns with document control processes (ECO, ECN, and BOM).
  • Helps develop project plans, stage gate deliverables, conducts design reviews, and anticipates project road blocks, delays and risks. Utilizes critical issue and communication techniques to problem solve.
  • Attends educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in industry related societies.
  • Participate in multi-functional project teams with scientists, technical support and other specialists to resolve system level issues.
  • Ensures a safe and health conscious work environment by following all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Finishes the mandatory training assignments (Ethics, Intellectual Property, etc.)
  • International travel will vary according to project needs but may be up to 15%. Yearly average of 15% or less.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Biomedical/Polymer engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years in new or custom product development environment.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling analyses, and simulations. Experience with design of complex assemblies (plastic, metal, and electromechanical systems).
  • Familiarity with EPDM Vault and documentation control.
  • Experience working with external vendors (subcontractors) such as mechanical fabricators, material suppliers.
  • Working knowledge of common and specialty engineering materials is essential.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project).

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree in Chemical/Mechanical/Biomedical/Polymer engineering or related field.

  • Greater than five years’ experience as lead mechanical design engineer in new product development environment.
  • Experience with design and development of bioprocessing or food processing equipment’s.
  • Experience with injection molding of plastic components/assemblies.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the current industry guidelines for designing, manufacturing, testing and detailing biopharmaceutical process equipment. (ASME BPE, GAMP, cGMP, ISPE, etc.)
  • Experience in qualification activities (FAT/SAT) for process equipment in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven collaboration skills in a fast-paced goal-driven matrix organization.
