Beckman Coulter is currently looking for a Sr. Product Manager to join the global product management team supporting the development and expansion of our exciting hematology portfolio. This role will focus on new product development, brining voice of the customer and market requirements to the stage-gate process.  The incumbent will help champion customer insights to develop market leading products.  The global product management team is a multinational group responsible for leading the cradle-to-grave product management of the hematology portfolio.  Specific duties and responsibilities include:
  • Cradle-to-grave product management of assigned Hematology Diagnostics products
  • Own generation of Voice of Customer (VOC) insights for product updates, positioning updates.
  • Analyze market problems, product solutions and how customers gain value from business offerings (duality of the product/market pair)
  • Seek new market opportunities
  • Monitor and incorporate industry innovations
  • Analyze the competitive landscape
  • Conduct win/loss and VOC analysis
  • Conduct technology assessment
  • Define user personas for individual products
  • Position the product for all markets and buyer types
  • Shape / champion new segments and directions by synthesizing & analyzing voice of the customer to understand future directions of technology and future customer needs; evaluate potential new business opportunities and formulate recommendations based on known risks and rewards, determine the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and channels; market strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT); Pricing and Profitability.  Create/maintain multi-year product strategy and roadmap; Develop business cases
  • Collaborate with Platform, R&D, Medical and Marketing teams to assess, prioritize and develop content solutions
  • Sit on cross-functional core team throughout stage gate development process
  • Ensure prioritization and tracking of product management activities New Product Introductions, Sustaining & Incubation. Accountable for delivering key milestones on time and aligning to the overall revenue targets
  • Execute consistently on plan targets using metrics to monitor and adjust based on performance against those metrics
  • Serve as global knowledge source for best practice sharing, competitive information, product performance specifications, competitive positioning, and collateral library.  Enable peer-to-peer sharing of practices and key success factors.

Job Requirements


  • Requires knowledge and skills normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) in medical technology (preferred), life science, or engineering. MBA preferred. MS/PhD a plus.  
  • Minimum 7 years of product management experience in clinical diagnostics, ideally in hematology or flow cytometry including technologies, applications, and markets.
  • Product management, ideally with a focus on new product development
  • Incumbent must have excellent communication skills as well as analytical, project management and planning skills.
  • Cross-functional team leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Incumbent must have proven ability to see new business opportunities, set and meet aggressive objectives and develop strong working relationships across all levels of the organization, including proven influencing skills.
  • Flexible, curious and tenacious with a can do positive approach in a challenging business.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently – strong team player.
  • Perfect command of English, second language preferred.
  • Able to travel 30%, including international travel.
Nature and scope
This position interacts with varying levels of internal and external personnel requiring the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing BEC’s market development, positioning, GTM commercial operating plans and strategies.  Position communicates Beckman Coulter Diagnostics mission as well as interprets policies/programs.   Effectiveness in this role requires an in-depth knowledge of those operating plans and strategies as well as industry practices for developing, promoting and selling similar products.  The incumbent receives assignments in the form of objectives and determines how to use resources to meet schedules and goals.  Incumbent will exercise Danaher Business Systems and judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.  Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.

Working Conditions

Ideally the incumbent will work in an office environment; however arrangements can be made for the right candidate. May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone, attend conference calls, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 20 lbs. may be required.  The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate.  Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours, as needed.
