Description

The Senior Director, Tax Compliance is primarily responsible for leading the preparation and review of all US income tax returns, including US Federal, US international, and state & local tax returns for Danaher and its subsidiaries.  You will assist tax planning and tax accounting processes with primary responsibility for providing Earnings and Profits, taxes, GILTI, foreign tax credits and other tax attribute data to tax planning and tax accounting teams.  

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of approximately 20 tax professionals based in Cleveland, OH, leading and directing the group in their long-term professional assessment and development
  • Continuously improve tax compliance processes from a time, accuracy and productivity perspective
  • Analyze and advise senior management of newly enacted tax legislation about its impact on the Company’s financials and tax compliance requirements
  • Regular communication of tax issues and opportunities to senior tax leadership in a format that allows for meaningful discussions
  • Support quantitative determinations of impact of transactions and internal reorganizations.
  • Work directly with senior directors in Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific to understand tax planning initiatives and tax compliance requirements
  • Assist in the integration of acquisition targets including purchase accounting and their setup in current tax processes and systems
  • Support as needed IRS tax audit requests for historical planning transactions
  • Stay current with respect to tax law changes in the U.S. and OUS jurisdictions
  • Maintain regular contact with personnel at the Company’s domestic and international subsidiaries and divisions to ensure that any operational changes that may impact international compliance are understood and acted on
  • Maintains and up-to-date knowledge of the Company’s accounting methods, policies and systems.
  • Undertake special projects, including tax due diligence relating to potential acquisitions and internal reorganizations as they relate to international tax, basis studies, earnings & profits, inclusions, and foreign tax credits
Critical Success Factors:

  • Must be an exceptional tax professional, be able to bridge an operating business model with the legal entity structure and tax technical analysis in an effective manner and be able to lead and coordinate tax issues across an individual legal entity and global reporting structure
  • Must be experienced in US and Foreign tax rules (ideally Europe and Asia Pacific), regulations, and transfer pricing
  • Must be able to lead tax analysis in support of planning initiatives
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and project management skills
  • Must have high intelligence and ability to prioritize on a real time basis
  • Be able to influence peers, subordinates and superiors. Clear communication skills are critical.
  • Analyze complicated issues (technically and numerically) and boil down to the key points, develop action plans and implement
  • Experienced, successful manager and mentor of professional staff
  • Must have strong managerial courage – ability to make the tough decision and to not be overly sensitive (thick skinned), be able to effective play catch ball (idea/issue back and forth discussion) and think on their feet
  • Will display and operate in a way that never compromises ethics and integrity and will be non-political in all dealings with agendas that are above board and understood by all

Required Skills & Experience: 
  • Graduate or undergraduate in Finance or Accounting; CPA or Master of Taxation degree desirable
  • Minimum of 15 years of corporate tax and accounting experience
  • Significant international experience is required along with a strong global business perspective while functioning in a multinational organization with multiple business units
  • Experience in the tax aspects of acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence and post-merger integration a plus
  • More specifically, it is anticipated that you will be hands-on and detail-oriented but also able to see the big picture
  • You need to be able to think strategically and view the business from a general management standpoint as well as from a financial and legal perspective
  • You must be able to work well in a cross-functional, matrixed, decentralized organization and be very customer focused in terms of providing accurate information to other tax team members
  • You must be a professional who can deliver results and who must have strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • You will be a team player who is well versed in the details but capable of bridging knowledge gaps to team members at various levels of experience
  • You will need to be a quick study who can rapidly adapt to Danaher’s culture and gain the confidence of the tax leadership team
  • You must be able to drive and manage change, be non-political, creative, culturally aware and possess a strong desire to win and passion to excel
