Description

The Manager Software Development Engineer conceives, applies and implements product design concepts and unique solutions involving specific software products and applications. The incumbent coordinates the introduction of methods, tools, technologies and processes with the project team; develops and synthesizes software system requirements; provides internal consultative support to the technical organization and product development teams; develops, acquires and implements new technological capabilities; appraises new products, applications and/or process proposals; and leads and/or participates in multi-functional product research and development teams as well as product and/or system design reviews.


  • • Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results
  • • Formulates changes in development, maintenance and systems standard
  • • Formulates/monitors single project plan and may lead a multi-functional project
  • • May serve as the Engineering project lead with knowledge of the development process, design control and basic Regulatory issues
  • • May be the key contact for outside application/technology providers
  • • Adheres to technical standards
  • • Recommends and leads process improvements
  • • Provides guidance to junior scientists; reviews and approve junior scientist’s work
  • • Adheres to policies and procedures
  • • Exercises independent judgment
  • • Develops advanced concepts and designs for complex issues
  • • May serve as a hiring manager
  • • Resolves (with limited direction) complex manufacturing discrepancies
  • • Begins to apply knowledge and experience in instrument theory of operation to achieve work objectives
  • • Begins to broaden professional expertise by studying related disciplines and innovations in the larger technological arena
  • • Begins to consider organizational issues, external factors, and customer perspective when making decisions.
  • • May provide direction and guidance in design, development and application of new technologies. Begins to elaborates technical strategy and promotes introduction of methods, tools, processes and technologies. Mentors and provides ongoing teaching, guidance and assistance to technical staff in area(s) of expertise.
  • • Attends external seminars and visits customers and other companies to continue learning.
