With our growing innovation, we are seeking Senior Software Engineer – Embedded to join our talented and collaborative team on a full-time basis.  A Senior Software Engineer is responsible for the design and development of software associated with on-going product maintenance and new product development for the Advance Staining Instruments business unit.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for but are not limited to:
  • Design, Develop and Test software in compliance with the applicable sections of the LBS Quality Management System.
  • Investigate and analyse software related issues 
  • Develop and contribute to technical documentation
  • Define technical procedures 
  • Maintain & configure development and test environments 
  • Provide technical leadership for teams of 1 to 3 software engineers
  • Provide detailed effort estimates for software design implementation.
  • Provide feedback through development reviews
  • Implement Danaher values and processes
  • Provide software support consultancy to other business units within Leica Biosystems Melbourne (LBM)

Job Requirements


 A successful candidate will possess:

  • Graduate or post-graduate qualifications in Computer Science or Software Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
  • A Minimum of 7+ years experience in Software Development including exposure to the full software development life cycle
  • Implementation experience with software development technologies subject to project needs.  Technologies may include:
    • Experience in software solution design including experience in applying Object Oriented Analysis and Design techniques and patterns.
    • Expert knowledge of C++ and C
    • Experience in developing applications using one of Microsoft Platforms (including XP, Windows 7, Windows Server), Linux or Other RTOS
    • Experience in the use of Configuration Management Systems such as Git and Subversion.
  • A solid understanding of the software development life cycle and applicable best practice design control procedures including experience in applying Object Oriented Analysis and Design techniques. 
  • Strong verbal, documentation and communication skills.

Highly Desirable:

  • Microsoft .Net Framework C# with experience in developing applications using WPF and/or WCF technologies.
  • Experience working with the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) Library
  • Unit Testing Tools, Profiling Tools, Nant scripting
  • Agile practices: Pair Programming, Continuous build/integration, Test Driven Development •
  • Experience working on medical applications or other highly regulated application domains
