Ormco works closely with orthodontists to improve existing products and develop new products primarily through its Champion programs in which selected orthodontists assist Ormco in designing, developing and ultimately educating users on new product and technique innovations.


Description

The Senior Procurement Engineer is to use professional and skilled procurement practices to strategically source assigned commodities globally assuring long term supply for Ormco at world class levels of quality, delivery and total cost.  Contribute to new product development/ implementation, provide direction on improvement projects, and contribute to DHR Corporate Procurement requirements.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participation/ownership of new product development procurement activities.
  • Completion of components planning and procurement (dock to stock), Suppliers on Board, Delivery and Cost targets met, and successful product planning hand-off to Buyer/Planner.
  • Champion of Early Supplier Involvement            
  • Ad-hoc data analysis and reporting when needed by procurement management or commodity buyers.       
  • Interface with DHR OpCo’s to develop and implement Global Procurement best practices.
  • Procurement responsibilities met or exceeded, as tracked and measured by the new product project lead.        
  • Management of commodity projects database and visual project board
  • Development and management of prototype supply base

Internal Relationships:
  • Reports to the Director of Global Procurement
  • Interacts with the Cross Functional Team members including Operations, R&D, Engineering, Materials, Finance, Marketing, Technical Support, and Global Product Development Partners.
  • Interacts with various strategic sourcing associates (Commodity Team, Danaher Procurement, Manufacturing and Materials Management executives)
  • Interacts with Segment Ops/Procurement professionals

External Relationships:
  • Interacts with suppliers across all commodities

Measurements:
  • NPD project support per project timeline
  • Improvement in supplier quality and delivery
  • Annual cost improvements
  • Cost Targets Achieved
  • Improvement in payment terms
  • Supplier Consolidation
  • Preferred Supplier and preferred parts percentage at launch.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

Education:
  • MBA in Engineering or Bachelor's degree plus experience in field

Experience:
  • 10+ years of professional procurement engineering experience, preferably in the medical sector
  • Functional Training - Demonstrated skills/experience in Project Management, Cost Improvement Project Management, Communication or Management with Supply base, Cross-functional project management, strong skills in negotiations, communications, leadership and ability to influence
  • Microsoft Office experience (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access) 
  • Lean Manufacturing certifications or Certified Green Belt is preferred


MOST IMPORTANT SKILLS REQUIRED:

Teamwork: 
  • The ability to work collaboratively with the supply base and internal cross-functional support team to achieve overall cost improvement goals.
  • The primary responsibility of this position will be to optimize the cost structures of our procured materials & components with key suppliers in support of our financial business needs.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • English fluency required, in addition Spanish is a plus. 
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  
  • Ability to effectively present information, influence, persuade, and respond to questions from groups of executives, managers, peers, and suppliers.

TRAVEL:
  • Frequent travel up to 40% is required and may be exceed these levels at times.  
  • Travel regions may include but are not limited to Europe, the US, and countries in Asia or South America.
