The Senior Design Engineer (Sr.DE) is supporting technical projects from idea generation to design transfer according to the company’s Design Control and Idea to Market processes. Specifically, the Sr.DE supports the Product Development Engineers with the translation and detailed development of product concepts into technical drawings and other specifications suitable for production. The Sr.DE collaborates closely with the Technical Project Leader and manufacturing sites.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supports manufacturing in translating the design into manufacturing processes and quality control

  • Be a point of contact for technical and product knowledge

  • Generate, change and review specifying documents (e.g. drawings, labels, specifications) as part of Technical Files and project work. Ensure that documents are uniform, accurate and comply with applicable engineering, medical device and Nobel Biocare (NB) standards

  • Create Change Request forms (ECO) and is responsible to close the change request

  • Identify potential improvements of products and support improvement requests for manufacturing processes

  • Comply with all relevant guidelines and procedures such as Design Control and Idea to Market process maintained by NB

  • Conduct and document technical analysis (e.g. prototypes, initial samples, complaints, etc.)

  • Perform and evaluate production feasibility studies of technical solutions

  • Conduct specifying document reviews with manufacturing and quality control

  • Provide technical content to product related documentation such as IFUs and product catalogues

  • Provide technical support to the team of Product Development Engineers

  • Execute and coordinate sub-projects focusing on new product launches as well as product enhancement or maintenance projects according to the relevant processes

Job Requirements


  • Strong technical background (BSc, MSc or equivalent) in relevant field (mechanical engineering or equivalent)

  • Further education such as post graduate diploma in Medical Technology is a plus

  • Approximately 5-8 years of successful working experience in the design engineering or mechanical engineering field, preferably medical device (dental ideally) or pharmaceutical industry

  • Ability to define complex technical solutions on a detailed level and maintain effective work behavior in the face of setbacks or pressure

  • Result oriented, analytical, proactive, good communicator

  • Fluent in English (spoken and written), German is an asset

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods and processes

  • Strong understanding of quality control methods and processes

  • Closely collaborate with Product Development Engineers, the Technical Project Leader and other stakeholder in projects

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of integrity, commitment, ethics and proactivity to cultivate network of productive relationships in an international matrix environment

  • Strong analytical skills and result orientation

  • High interest into innovation and new technology

  • Analyze issues and breaks them down. Make documented, systematic and rational judgments based on relevant information

  • Understand and apply basic commercial and financial principles. View issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value

  • Comprehensive knowledge in relevant software as 3D-CAD, SAP, MS Office

  • Comprehensive knowledge in internal processes as Design Control, Idea to Market and SOPs

  • Comprehensive knowledge about the clinical workflow of a dental surgery and other challenges in the dental clinical environment
