Description

Key responsibilities of the R&D Technician Specialist involve test and analysis utilizing a variety of engineering fixtures and machines as well as support of R&D development of new products and technologies. The ideal candidate makes detailed observations, analyzes data, and interprets results while needing minimal instructions on routine task and general instructions on new assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support all engineering test and analysis initiatives related New Product Development and Sustaining Engineering by;

o Preparing samples for testing,

o Performing tests using a variety of lab measuring equipment,

o Documenting results using good documentation practices,

o Analyzing data and reporting accurate and timely summaries of experiments.

• Provide technical analysis on new test requirements and methods and provide feedback to the engineering team.

• Provide recommendations for improvement regarding test methods, test fixtures, and general lab practices.

• Maintain and organize cabinets and equipment within the lab.

• Maintain good laboratory housekeeping and a safe work environment.

• Perform other related duties and assignments as required.

Critical Success Factors:

• Strong MS Office skills. Particularly Excel and Word.

• Must have excellent attention to detail and precision in work.

• Team player that has a history of providing assistance and technical support to development teams.

• Ability to perform routine and repetitive sample testing.

• Ability to work well under pressure and able to utilize problem solving techniques effectively.

• Ability to recognize, evaluate, prioritize and manage multiple activities.

• Has high integrity. Sometimes the test data will show design problems which could potentially delay the launch date of a project. The financial impact of a launch date delay should never be the reason that some data is removed from a Lab Report. This candidate must objectively stand by their data.

Education and/or Experience: 

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

• A minimum 2 years medical device testing experience in a Research and Development environment.

• Demonstrable experience using an Instron tester and Blue Hill software programming.

• A proven record of working successfully with personnel at all levels of a matrix organization.

• Knowledge of GLP (Good Lab Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices).

• Excellent written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check prior to employment.
