Product Development Engineer Digital Solutions

As Product Development Engineer (PDE) you will champion both leading technical projects and taking responsibility for developing dental products and solutions according to the company’s Design Control and Idea to Market process for New Product Introductions (NPI).

  • Design and develop dental products and solutions according to the company’s Design Control and Idea to Market processes. Responsible for the concept, design and development of a dental product and solution.
  • Lead technical project within new product introduction. Plan, perform and document design verification and validation activities that meets company and applicable regulatory requirements (FDA, MDR).
  • Ensure all required specifications and related documentation are in place in due time and quality to assure early milestone achievement (e.g. Design Reviews, etc.).
  • Manage external partners, suppliers, and dental Key Experts in relation to assigned Product Development activities.
  • Identify patentable solutions and file patents in cooperation with the company’s intellectual property department.
  • Identify process and product improvements and support improvement requests for other departments.
  • Be a central point of knowledge and comply with all relevant Product Development guidelines and procedures such as Design Control and Idea to Market process.
  • Continuously report to line and project manager achievements and escalates challenges in a timely manner.

Job Requirements


Ideally you bring:
  • Three plus (3+) years of successful working experience in product development and / or technical project lead in medical device or pharmaceutical industry, preferably in the dental industry.
  • Strong technical background (BSc or higher) in relevant field (biomedical or mechanical engineering)
  • Good knowledge in relevant tools (e.g. 3D CAD, SAP, Office) and processes (Design Control and Idea to Market Process).
  • Able to develop the skill-set to understand user needs, clinical and laboratory workflows (conventional and digital) in the dental industry and translate them into technical requirements.
  • Good knowledge of the relevant Nobel Biocare products and solutions, manufacturing methods and cost assessments.
  • Good knowledge in CAD/CAM.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritize and manage the workload of the project team.
  • Demonstrate problem-solving ability.
  • Strong analytical skills and result orientation with interest in innovation, new technology and workflows.
  • Analyzes issues and breaks them down. Makes documented, systematic and rational judgments based on relevant information.
  • Demonstrates a broad-based view of issues and a perception of their longer-term impact or wider implications. Views issues in terms of costs, profits, markets and added value.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of integrity, commitment, ethics and proactivity to cultivate a network of productive relationships in an international working environment.
  • Work effectively with other departments and maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks independently to meet the objectives.

  • Maintain effective work behavior in the face of setbacks & pressure. Remain calm, stable and in control.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills with the ability to adjust the message to the audience.
  • Work independent within the development organization.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written), German (spoken and written) is an asset
  • An understanding of FE-analyses is preferred.
