The Ormco Manufacturing Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes for medical device products, and supports Operations to assure a quality product is produced utilizing Lean Methodologies.  Works directly with multiple departs representing the manufacturing team, collaborating with Quality Assurance, R&D, Procurement, and Regulatory Affairs to improve existing product designs and processes to the customer experience, decrease operational costs, or improve quality.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: including the following and other duties as assigned.

  • Provide improvement and sustaining engineering support for existing production lines.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve manufacturing and inspection processes and procedures.
  • Provide process development engineering support for new product development projects.  
  • Initiate equipment modifications to improve productivity and product quality.
  • Work with outside vendors to coordinate the development of manufacturing equipment.
  • Work closely with maintenance department to improve machine reliability/reduce downtime and define equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Assist with resolving issues with suppliers.
  • Assist with trouble shooting and repairing of equipment and tooling.
  • Assist with performing process failure mode effects analyses. 
  • Work with management to establish project timeliness, project justification, and budget forecasts.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Fields of studies include:  Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or related field or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • 2-4 years of experience in a manufacturing work environment.
  • Experience with completing Oracle Manufacturing transactions or similar system.
  • Experienced in the design and troubleshooting of complex machine control systems and programs.
  • Experience in the design and support of automation equipment and production lines is desirable.
  • Ability to work alone and as a team member with good interpersonal and leadership qualities to get assigned tasks completed in a timely manner.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communications skills.
  • Possess good organizational and prioritization skills in order to maintain and address multiple assigned projects.  
  • Experienced in the design, development and qualification of manufacturing processes. 
  • Capable of performing in a medicinal device regulated environment, IQ, OQ, PQ validations experience preferred. 
  • Ability to program, troubleshoot CNC equipment/PLC Equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Solid Works or other solid modeling software.
  • Basic project management experience.
