We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering student to enable design, integration and verification of key technologies on world-class, state-of-the-art analytical instruments. The role is part of the Hardware Product Development team. In this capacity, the candidate will be part of high-performance, multi-disciplinary teams participating in all phases of product development, including product commercialization and concept realization with our engineering and scientific community.  This is a contract position with a duration of approximately 12-16 months, depending on the program and availability.

  • Work closely with engineers, manufacturing, and technologists to design, kit, assemble and integrate components and sub-assemblies for R&D-grade test-beds (i.e. mass spec instrumentation)
  • Evaluate and troubleshoot prototype components and assemblies, including jig & fixture design 
  • Perform engineering calculations such as tolerance analysis, elements of structural and thermal analyses, etc.
  • Work with Buyers and Procurement Engineers to source materials, parts, and assemblies from the most appropriate vendors. 
  • Maintain strict compliance with ISO13485, cGMP, QSR and other applicable Quality Management System standards


Job Requirements


  • Enrolled in a Canadian college or post-secondary institution pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering 
  • Demonstrated experience in using at least one high level Industry Standard 3D CAD software package (e.g. CATIA, Pro E, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills in English, and be familiar with a range of engineering principles and concepts.
  • Proactive, results-oriented, self-motivated and willing to be part of a larger team working in collaboration with a group engineers and scientists. 
  • Hands-on experience and/or understanding of machining tools and equipment, demonstrated in a school, workplace, or home hobby environment
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, and having direct experience in design and build of mechanical or electro-mechanical prototypes (whether from a manufacturing or R&D environment)
  • Familiarity with CATIA
