Development Manufacturing Engineering (DMAE) group is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer on a contract basis to support R&D projects for the purpose of release to Manufacturing.   The work includes creating, reviewing, and updating of drawings, assembly procedures, processes that will be used to ensure a streamlined transition to the Manufacturing team and its Suppliers.  It also includes analysis and generating recommendations to mitigate issues found as part of Design for Manufacturability/Assembly (DFx) activities.

Activities include:
  • Perform drawing reviews for DFx.
  • Develop assembly instructions.
  • Develop new processes and validating them for use in Manufacturing.
  • Perform and participate Process Failure Modes and Effects analysis and implementing mitigation tasks.
  • Perform Supplier Producibility Reviews and identifying gaps that may affect delivery to Manufacturing.
  • Ability to build assemblies including delicate/miniature complexity to larger assemblies based on Engineering documentation.
  • Define, qualify, and commission fixtures and tools based on build experiences. 
  • Provide training materials to Manufacturing personnel.


Job Requirements


  • Master's/Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience assembling complex electro-mechanical assemblies or scientific instruments.
  • Experience in reviewing and defining assembly instructions and notes for both fabricated and make assemblies.
  • Wide technical knowledge of materials and the fabrication processes including stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics.
  • Technical knowledge on processes for parts used in vacuum environments.
  • Experience in a new product introduction work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and ownership on tasks individually or as part of a team.
  • Member of PEO an asset.
  • Experience in Mass Spectrometer or other scientific instruments are an asset.
