The R&D Program Manager is an important leader within the ETS Business Unit responsible for the implementation of its new product development (NPD) efforts. This position leads a team of highly talented, cross-functional new product implementation (NPI) associates assuming responsibility and accountability for meeting product development requirements, fulfilling product definition, meeting product and project cost goals, quality objectives, and time-to-market objectives. In addition to leading highly talented associates, the successful R&D Program Manager works as a member of the management team to develop strategic plans that define the direction of the Business Units NPD activitiy and serves as a communication link between the Business Unit, R&D, Global Compliance, RA/QA, Corporate, Manufacturing, Sales and Marketing.

  • Drives Innovation & Growth:
    • Partner with business unit commercial functions to develop impactful product roadmaps, improve NPD project planning and execution, and achieve well-executed new product introductions.
    • Develop, maintain, and execute detailed project schedules and budgets to ensure successful NPD projects. 
  • Builds People, Teams and Organizations:
    • Build and develop a highly-engaged, high performing, growth-oriented team of NPI associates.
    • Cultivate productive relationships with the cross functional departments necessary for the development, manufacturing and sustainment of our products. 
    • Coach, train, and counsel associates to achieve performance and development goals. 
  • Charts the Course:
    • Ensure the team is doing the right things (focusing on the critical few) and doing things right (leveraging DBS and best demonstrated practices). 
    • Lead the development and maintenance of programs within the Business Unit that lead to product conception, definition, design, and release to manufacturing. 
    • Drive all product sustaining efforts through coordination of efforts with Product Managers, Sales, Customer Service, and Manufacturing to meet customer expectations. 
  • Leads through DBS:
    • Develop, and ultimately implement strategic activities to drive NPD growth equation improvements
    • Lead the ETS BU Problem to Portfolio process to drive incremental portfolio value
  • Models Humility, Transparency, and Integrity:
    • Maintain, improve and adhere to the Hach Quality System requirements, including the NPI guide and NPD process, to ensure ISO compliance. 
    • Accountable for all project management requirements within the Business Unit, including platform and derivative projects.
    • Ensures design and NPD toll gate review processes are adhered to for internal and external projects. 

Job Requirements


  • BS or BA in Engineering or the Sciences required
  • MS, MA, or MBA in business, marketing, engineering, or technology management preferred
  • Four or more years in a product development, engineering, or manufacturing environment, with at least two years of close involvement with product development or project management.
  • Working knowledge of phase-gate new product development processes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to simplify complex issues to drive NPD impact
  • Working knowledge of Medical Device Regulations and Regulatory Affairs
  • Broad understanding of Hach and ETS products and processes, including design, manufacturing, and market use of products.  
  • Ability to utilize commonly accepted project management tools to assist in the development of, and adherence to a project schedule.
  • Ability to present highly complex, technical, or difficult messages clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability in analytical thinking.
  • Understanding of the project management body of knowledge
  • Knowledge of effective team building approaches, and team dynamics.
  • Knowledge of administrative systems.
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers, and common business productivity tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
