In congruency with our growth of the Advanced Staining and Imaging Business Unit, we are excited to be looking for a capable Human Resource Manager to join our team! This role has responsibility for owning the HR Function of the Imaging Solutions (IS) Business Unit at Leica Biosystems by providing direction, support, and mentorship to the Site Lead and site leadership team as well as ensuring effective and timely HR operational support is provided to all line managers and associates.

This role has HR site responsibilities for the Vista, CA location predominately (~80 associates) and, in partnership with the HR Manager responsible for the India Development Center (IDC), supporting the HR strategies specific to IS in the IDC location (~30 associates). In this position, you will have the opportunity to drive strategies and actions in support of recruiting, engagement, development and retention to ensure business needs and strategic plans are achieved in conjunction with business goals.

Major Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for key talent management and development including:
  • Collaboration with departmental heads to ensure solid plans are in place to drive sustained team development through competency assessment and development of associates.
  • Ensuring Talent Succession Funnels are built and nurtured to support future business growth.
  • Development and sustainment of robust process to manage all aspects of Talent Management as a catalyst for companywide talent strategies short and long term.
  • Timely placement of qualified and diverse associates while building and maintaining candidate funnels for key business areas.
  • Define talent needs, and support leaders to forecast and plan their workforce and talent pipeline requirements in line with the function or business strategy. Support leaders in providing associates with development opportunities that align with current and future business requirements.
  • Improve communications and engagement with associates by actively engaging and managing the associate survey data. Develop action plans based on feedback and metrics of the survey data.
  • Assist in developing and implementing ongoing policies, programs, and procedures to further understanding of and improvement in management, supervisory, and/or employee relations while ensuring HR keeps employees informed and councils administrators of all changes to such policies.
  • Attend and participate in site leadership meetings with shared facilitating responsibility to promote and contribute to the development of site plans, governance processes and communication to meet the strategic objectives.
  • Has personal ownership for key HR metrics (recruitment, development, retention, etc.) to drive competitive advantage and partner with leaders to dive to root cause, develop and execute appropriate counter-measures where needed.
  • Motivating change management to support achievement of business goals.
  • Mentoring leaders through implementation and support of our talent management tools and leadership development programs to develop high performing teams.
  • Provide a balanced and safe workplace for employees, contractors and visitors through working with EHS Manager to implement policies, procedures and support improvements ensuring that the business follows all relevant EHS regulations.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required; Masters preferred

  • 5-8 years HR Strategic Partner experience required

  • Proven and demonstrable experience of driving the HR function within a fast-paced, regulated environment.


  • Effective communicator in a variety of settings from one on one to large groups, utilizing attentive listening skills and adjusting the message to fit with the audience

  • Balances needs of business partners to identify, build, and deliver upon opportunities while considering cultural and ethical factors in making fair decisions

  • Utilizes critical thinking to ask the right questions, analyze situations with information from diverse sources to uncover root causes and evaluate the risks and benefits of solutions

  • Sound decision-making utilizing a mixture of analysis, experience, and knowledge from self and other people resources to consider relevant factors and make a principled decision

  • Has strong orientation to accomplishing objectives in a measurable and sustainable way, recognizing obstacles while utilizing resources to overcome these, helping self and others to achieve results.

  • Has the managerial courage to provide direct and actionable feedback, support others in facing difficult situations/decisions while willing to do the same, and champion potentially unpopular ideas based on strong judgement.

  • Plans, aligns, and executes strategies and objectives around talent development to meet growth requirements of the business.

  • The need to travel will be moderate within this role (<20%)
