The entry level firmware engineer is an integral position within the Hach R&D team.

The engineer will be part of a fast paced team, working in a collaborative environment that will drive growth and innovation within the firmware competency. 

The engineer will engage with SCRUM in an Agile team environment with the core responsibility of developing high quality innovative solutions.


The role of this position is perform basic embedded systems engineering activities to support development and sustaining activities with some supervision by a senior technical team members.

Key Responsibilities
  • End-to-End Design and Development of embedded solutions; 
  • Work as a member of an Agile firmware development team using scrum processes; 
  • Drive firmware quality by using early defect discovery and removal; 
  • Analyze acceptance criteria and provide estimates of effort.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum of a BS, preferred MS, in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent field; 
  • Development experience using operating systems such as Linux or RTOS; 
  • 2 years of C++ development experience; 
  • Good knowledge of basic scripting languages: Shell, Bash, Python; 
  • Good knowledge with common microprocessor theory of fundamentals; 
  • Good knowledge of commonly-used circuits, analysis and measurement tools.
Preferred Skills:
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical hardware circuits;
  • Distributed source control such as Git; 
  • Good knowledge of Yocto build system; 
  • Basic knowledge of embedded UI technologies: Qt, PEG; 
  • Software design principles and patterns; 
  • Demonstrated use of common debugging techniques.
