Position Summary and Overview:

The Design Transfer Planner is responsible for ensuring new products or changes to existing products are launched successfully from the Newcastle site and that all supply chain related activities for projects have been completed on time to ensure this.  As this is a new role, accurate and robust processes will need to be developed and integrated into the current planning and material buying processes. The role will be pivotal by ensuring project requirements (forecast, resource, capacity, availability etc) are effectively managed into the key operational areas. This will enable production readiness to be assessed alongside the ongoing supply of existing products.

The Design Transfer Planner will report to the Planning Manager with a dotted line to the Design Transfer Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Be core or extended team member for assigned projects and work cross functionally across the project representing the operation from a planning perspective. Core or extended will depend on the nature of the project. 
  • Hands on planning work as required to support the transfer of projects into the team.
  • Be expert in the material and production planning processes in order to be able to represent the team and introduce products effectively.
  • Build strong cross functional relationships with R&D in Newcastle, Amsterdam, Danvers and Melbourne, project managers, product management and all Newcastle end to end operational areas. 
  • Managing companion diagnostic (CDx) clinical trials, planning and stocking policies (eg. Covance) in line with supplier manufacturing lead times and batch quantity
  • Interface between R&D and logistics for dispatch of clinical trial products
  • Have excellent knowledge of design control processes to enable effective and compliant transfer to the operational area
  • Responsible for ensuring all supply chain activities required for the operational areas are coordinated to meet key mile stones in line with project plans
  • Be a SME for the BOM creation process and ensure any of new product BOMS are set up and verified correctly in line with design transfer team.
  • Collaborate with marketing and project teams to ensure annual forecasts are provided timely in order to assess end to end operational capacity for new product launches.
  • Co-ordination of RAW materials required as per forecast for new product launches with the materials planner
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the operational strategy plan that will be applied to each project
  • Highlight capacity constraints to project teams and operational areas teams to effectively manage timelines of manufacture of V&V batches and product launch requirements.
  • Responsible for all supply chain aspects of production readiness review (BOMS / Prisym / SAP etc)
  • Be the SME for the OEM / bespoke product order process
  • Uses DBS (Continuous Improvement) tools to constantly improve daily management; problem solving and to deliver projects in line with Visual Project Management.
  • Support the Design Transfer Scientist with any requirements for statements of work
  • Lead, mentor and support the production planner in daily activities

Job Requirements


Required Skills/Experience/Education:

  • Experience of operating in a highly regulated environment
  • Proficient with ERP software such as SAP
  • Excellent Data Analysis skills
  • Understanding of lean planning principles
  • Ability to work independently and cross functionally

  • Exemplarily inter-personal skills
  • A high attention to detail and data trending
  • Highly organised with an ability to work effectively to deadlines
  • Proficient in using IT software packages, such as MS Excel (advanced level), MS Outlook, etc
