The Compliance Specialist  will work for a truly global business at Leica with particular emphasis on the EMEA region.  The Compliance Specialist should effectively partner with Leica associates and build solid relationships to establish an approachable image for the compliance department.  The Manager should have solid public speaking and presentation skills which will be utilized often for this role.  This position will be responsible for implementing written policies, procedures, and standards of conduct, leading effective training programs, and conducting internal investigations to respond promptly to detected offenses and undertake corrective actions.  This position will also proactively identify compliance-related gaps or issues and work with the legal and compliance team on how to mitigate potential risks.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the administration of the company’s compliance program primarily in the EMEA region but also as needed worldwide to support the global footprint of Leica Biosystems. 
  • Promote (a) use of the Compliance Hotline, (b) heightened awareness of Standards of Conduct, and (c) understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures. 
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in Legal, Internal Audit, HR, Finance and other core functions in order to direct compliance issues through the appropriate channels for investigation and resolution.  
  • Partner with appropriate business areas to deliver compliance training that further amplifies the company’s program, engages employees, and addresses specific needs within Leica Biosystems. 
  • Execute auditing and monitoring assessments to ensure adherence against company policies.
  • Work with local management and associates to maintain compliance with channel partners / distributors and internal requirements for due diligence, including background screening, agreement negotiation and ongoing compliance trainings.   

Job Requirements


Functional Qualifications: 

  • Working knowledge and understanding of applicable regulatory and compliance requirements for medical device company, including risk assessment and audit activities.  
  • Knowledge and understanding of legal issues, regulations and codes facing global medical device companies including anti-bribery, FCPA, EucoMed, global transparency laws, etc.  
  • Strong project management skills, to include managing and prioritizing multiple concurrent projects and reporting progress and risks to colleagues and senior management. 
  • Experience in conducting investigations throughout the entire investigations process, including tracking of the investigation lifecycle and the close-out process. 
  • Experience in reviewing and evaluating third party diligence investigations of channel partners and overseeing a channel partner management program for a global business. 
  • Preferred experience in the medical device or healthcare industry.
  • Preferred experience in the development, initiation, maintenance, and revision of policies and procedures for the general operation of a Compliance Program and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct.

  • Strong relationship management skills: ability to build and maintain productive relationships with leaders of other functional areas within and across the business areas to seek alignment on objectives for the benefit of Leica Biosystems and Danaher Corporation.
  • Ability to apply business and technical expertise to identify potential issues and partner with colleagues across Leica Biosystems to help solve problems of significant importance to the company.
  • Strong presentation, written and verbal communications skills, ability to act as a change agent through dynamic interactions with others. Strong negotiation skills. 
  • Ability to work effectively in a matrixed, multidisciplinary organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to make final decisions regarding the resolution of complex regional or functional business problems, independent of popularity of decision.
  • Professional maturity and confidence in expressing a point of view with associates and management.

Education / Other Requirements: 

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree required
  • 3- 5 years of relevant professional experience 
  • 2+ years Compliance Specialist experience 
  • Healthcare Industry highly preferred
  • Certifications including a CCEP, CPA, CFE or legal degree are highly desirable
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Compliance certifications/credentials preferred
  • Proficiency in English required. Other languages preferred
