POSITION SUMMARY: The Commodity Manager is responsible for managing a global supply chain for assigned commodities.   This position will help develop and execute a strategic commodity plan to ensure optimal quality, delivery, cost, and payment terms.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Effective idea generation, planning, and project execution to drive commodity strategies
  • Drives supplier accountability and performance by negotiating agreements/ contracts; price, inventory liability, quality 
  • Maintain a solid working knowledge of commodity trends including: industry trends, cost drivers, global pricing, material lead times, and technical/manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate medium to long-term supplier capabilities in an effort to optimize the commodity supply base in support of supplier reduction goals and objectives
  • Drive cost reduction through purchasing tools; reverse auction, RFP/RFQ, VAVE, should cost modeling, negotiation, YOY contracting, payment terms, make vs. buy
  • Work closely with R&D in the development and implementation of Accelerated Product Development (APD) and VAVE projects
  • Work closely with quality to reduce internal and external DPPM, CAPAs, and out of box failures.   Support quality through management of supplier quality rating programs, CAPA /SCAR resolution, and supplier audits 
  • Provide guidance on Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions for all purchased parts within assigned commodities
  • Coordinate and support on-site supplier assessment / certification audits and continuous improvement activities that drive down total cost and increase total supplier quality
  • Supports planners during supply chain disruptions through critical tactical expedites as needed
  • Provide support of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Other duties, reporting, special assignments or projects as needed and assigned

Job Requirements


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or related field 
  • 4+ years of experience in of relevant experience including supply chain, procurement, and/or engineering
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) including Pivot tables, V-Lookups, etc.
  • Ability/willingness to travel domestically and globally up to 30%

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience a Strategic Procurement role
  • 2+ years of project management skills 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence peers, supervisors, other operations leaders, and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to trouble shoot and solve problems independently with limited direction from supervisor
  • Knowledge of JIT Manufacturing environment 
  • This person must be strategic thinker as this position is one of the key contributors to the business’ long-term supply chain strategy   
  • Good business acumen and be adaptable to changing environment  
  • Technical knowledge of contract negotiation strategies and global contracting nuances.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to influence peers, supervisors, other operations leaders, and vendors.
