The primary responsibility of this position is to aid in indirect sourcing activities and use system controls to ensure compliance to operating procedures. In addition, this position is responsible for creating indirect savings that will generate improved profitability for the business and create funding that can be reinvested to fuel growth initiatives. Identify, plan, execute, monitor and control and close projects that generate savings in the form of Indirect savings dollars. Own third party supplier relationship including expectations and performance levels.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Builds and actively manages a robust savings funnel of varying projects in scope and complexity
  • Identifies savings opportunities and leads cross functional teams to drive down cost
  • Host supplier business reviews to monitor and improve performance across quality, delivery, inventory, innovation, cost, coverage and responsiveness
  • Uses a total cost of ownership model, competitive quoting, and strong analytics to select the best supplier to maximize business results
  • Forecasts site Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provides inputs to the annual budget
  • Negotiates long term agreements (LTA's) to ensure supply chain continuity
  • Supports the Value Engineering side of procurement - assisting in identifying opportunities, negotiating pricing, RFQ's, bid analyses, and communicating with suppliers
  • Partners with tactical buyers and sustaining engineers to resolve delivery and quality issues, respectively. Issues and follows up on supplier corrective action reports (SCARS) as needed.
  • Maintains transactional purchasing controls in Oracle using the approved supplier list, sourcing rules, quotes, and list price to ensure accuracy of tactical purchase orders
  • Reports supplier statistics and savings goal progress to key stakeholders in the business
  • Develops tailored sourcing strategies with a high focus on risk management
  • Follows GMP, ISO, FDA and all regulatory requirements
  • Prepares robust instructions regarding purchasing systems and procedures
  • Champions continuous improvement by using the Danaher Business System (DBS) to build process muscle, accelerate project timelines and generate business results.
Critical Success Factors:
  • The Procurement Specialist must be able to independently execute multiple projects to meet saving goals. Effective management of supplier negotiations as it relates to on quality, delivery, service, payment terms and cost is critical to success. Succinct and comprehensive communication on progress, business impact, barriers and results to stakeholders across multiple sites will influence success of the role and drive maximum organizational impact.
  • Developing an intimate knowledge of products produced on-site will allow for an understanding of the cost drivers and critical custom components that create opportunities for savings as well as conditions of risk.

Job Requirements


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 2+ years procurement, driving cost savings, experience required; manufacturing environment preferred
  • 2+ years indirect procurement, driving cost savings experience required; manufacturing environment preferred
  • 1+ years project management experience working with cross-functional teams required.
  • Must have or be able to acquire a valid US passport for international travel
  • Minimum of 20% travel required
Other Skills Required:
  • Intermediate-advanced erp procurement knowledge
  • Intermediate-advanced program knowledge (Excel, Powerpoint, Word, Visio).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large data sets, prepare formal reports of findings and provide decision support based on data.
  • The ability to understand and read engineering drawings and specifications related to fit, form and functionally, preferred but not mandatory
  • Knowledge of general business procurement practices and techniques, negotiations, as well as characteristics and usage of materials or services to be procedure is required
  • Demonstrated patience in working with diverse cross-functional teams
  • Strong critical thinking skills
Preferred Experience:
  • Project management professional certification (PMP)
  • APICS certification: CSCP or CPIM
  • Engineering and/or technical background
  • Background working with us based company and understanding of governing laws and regulations
  • Experience working with medical devices
  • Knowledge of FDA & iso standards
  • Experience working in a quality management system (QMS) and a change control board (CCB)
  • Ability to travel within Mexico as well as internationally.
  • Language Skills:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (in English & Spanish)
  • English/Spanish bilingual required
