Purpose of Position

The purpose of this position is to Identify, research, evaluate, and pursue business development and sales opportunities within assigned industry segments or market verticals that will contribute to the organization's short and long-term business goals. Develop, supervise and train highly effective network of distributors/dealers/agents and/or sales force to achieve sales targets, pursue key prospects, negotiate and construct appropriate terms of sales.

Essential Functions

Responsible for driving sales growth in an assigned industry, market segments or distribution channel, meeting sales objectives and further penetration of top and/or corporate accounts in the assigned segment.

Monitor market trends, regulatory drivers, brand or product strengths, market opportunities, competitive threats, and market growth predictors; develop a detailed sales and marketing plan for assigned segment including new sales opportunities, objectives, targeted deliverables.

Develop and communicate strategies and tactics based on that data to gain measurable market share and increase Hach’s presence within a targeted market segment.

Work with industry leading corporations to develop relationships and achieve corporate account status within the organization; includes development of business plan/marketing strategy and account specific action plans as required.

Participate in direct sales activities within assigned market segment including: customer site visits, telephone contacts, trade shows/seminars, product demonstrations, and customer seminars.

Coordinate joint sales activities with peers, Project Sales Manager, RSMs/SSEs and Distributors as appropriate to support the overall sales organization with technical and pre-sales applications expertise; participate in sales activities as required to provide application expertise to high priority sales opportunities

Provides high-level technical consulting related to assigned market segments and/or markets, applications and how Hach’s products and services meet the technical requirements of those markets and applications.

Maintain customer relationship and account activity (opportunity funnel) in the Hach sales management system on a routine and timely basis.

Other Non-Essential Functions

Negotiate and manage complex sales and purchase agreements

Works with RSMs/SSEs, Project Managers and Key Accounts to provide technical qualification support and product sales training

Maintain a high level of expertise in all areas of applications and associated products within functional group, i.e. municipal and/or industrial

Liaison to Hach product management for ongoing product development. 

Interact with senior management team as necessary to communicate and provide awareness on sales plans and issues.

Job Requirements


Desired Background and Skill Requirements

University degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biology, Environment Sciences or equivalent work experience required.  Alternate science degrees or sales experience will be considered.

Minimum of (5) five years of experience in corporate/B2B level sales required. Instrumentation or analytics sales experience (five to seven years) in similar products and services preferred.

Requires proven ability to effectively interact with senior level corporate personnel and must be able to speak effectively before large groups.

Ability to speak both English and Spanish is preferable.

Able to assimilate technical information quickly and synthesize into usable and understandable concepts and bits.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical customers.  

Formal sales training is required, but may be obtained immediately after employment.

Demonstrated ability to achieve superior personal sales results and results working through channel partners. 

Computer proficiency including MS Office Suite; ability to quickly learn and utilize sales management software.

Must be willing and able to travel extensively, including overnight travel.  

      Must maintain a valid driver's license in the state of residence.
